Summer is a time of many family activities and relaxation. We hope that you were able to enjoy special time with your children and friends. Manchester Local’s summer employees once again worked very hard to prepare the grounds and school buildings for the new school year. The ground crews have cared for the district’s hundreds of acres of grass and have carefully groomed building gardens and shrubbery. Each of the buildings was cleaned meticulously. You will notice the beautifully waxed floors and cleaned carpets immediately upon entrance to each of the buildings.
The transportation department prepared all of the system’s buses for the Ohio Highway Patrol’s inspection. Mr. Pat Boyd, bus mechanic, received a perfect inspection of 100%. The buses are clean, touched-up and mechanically prepared for the 2010 school year.
Football, soccer, tennis, cross-country, volleyball, golf and marching band have been practicing daily for their upcoming seasons.
Academically, preliminary information indicates that we have passed all 19 test areas and will be rated by the state as “Excellent” for the third consecutive year! We commend all of our students and their families for the time and effort that they devote to their studies. Your efforts have made a positive difference for the schools. In addition the Board of Education congratulate the teachers, building administrators, and counselors. An “Excellent” school system is developed and maintained through a team effort of students, families and educators. We look forward to several positive academic changes this year. As noted in the Curriculum and Instruction article, students will directly benefit from stimulus funds and grants through our summer purchase of reading and geometry textbooks. In addition, we appreciate the Portage Lakes Career Center completely funding the new Principles of Technology course at Manchester High.
As we begin a new school year, we reflect on the many possibilities for learning, success and achievement that will be provided for students, families and educators. We look forward to continued “Excellence.”
